It has been wonderful to welcome everyone back to Year 6 after a restful Christmas break. The children were excited to read 'Quest' by Aaron Becker, the sequel 'Journey', to the wordless picture book that we studied in September.

This week we have created Art inspired by the different scenes in the story, as well as find out about the historical sites that may have inspired them through daily Chatta sessions. The children started by creating watercolour paintings inspired by the Lost City of Atlantis. Then they produced jungle paintings in a pointillism style, and learnt about Mayan cities and temples such as Chichén Itzá. Finally, we learnt more about oil pastel artwork and the children learnt how to use them to create a wonderful illustration of snow-capped mountains. We learnt all about Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth. Ask your child what they found out about these places this week.

After creating these pieces of Art the children wrote descriptive settings to accompany them. We focused on using similes in our writing, as well as learning different sentence types. Ask your child to give you an example of a powerful descriptive sentence.

Some children also composed scores for a part of the story of their choosing, using GarageBand to create their piece of music.
