This week Year 1 learnt about tally charts and how to represent different numbers. We decided to go outside, look at the traffic and took part in a survey to find out which modes of transport were most popular around our school. We created our own tally chart, keeping track of the number of cars, vans, buses and bikes we saw. We had to be quick adding the tallies to our chart because there were many cars driving past. It was fun to count them all and keep track of the traffic near our School.

Squirrel Class really enjoyed Forest School this week! Lots of us took part in new activities, some which we found challenging at the beginning, but through determination and the support of our friends, we were successful in by the end of our session. Pretending to be koala bears and hang from a tree branch was one of the challenging activities. We all supported each other, helping our friend balance and hold on the tree. We also created pancake people where we had to use sticks to ‘draw’ around someone and then collect items from the forest to add details. We also attempted to shoot a bow and arrow which we had made in class. We were better than some of our teachers!

Year 1 has continued to improve their printing skills by using objects to create a picture. In Rabbit Class, some of us decided to make patterns and some of us created houses, trees and cars. We thought about what would be the best item to create a picture and carefully use a paintbrush to apply paint on the object and pressed down on paper.
