Year 5 - Forest School

Year 5 Heron Class enjoyed Forest School this week where they developed skills in fire making and shelter building. 

After last week's session the children decided they would like to build a fire and toast marshmallows. They did a fantastic job at using the 'waffle technique' to build the base of the fire and then slowly added small to larger pieces of wood as the fire got bigger. The children certainly deserved their marshmallows at the end! 

They also enjoyed finding new places to climb and make dens out of different size branches. Some children spent their time unblocking streams and creating dams which was very impressive.

Don't forget to ask your child about the 'fire triangle' and what is needed to get a fire going!
