Caribbean Day

On Monday we held a Caribbean Day for all the pupils.

At lunch time we all enjoyed a traditional Caribbean meal and then after lunch the fun began.  We welcomed IRIE Steelpan Workshops to Maylands for the afternoon, where they played and taught the pupils how to play the traditional Caribbean instrument – The Steelpan Drum.
At the beginning of the workshop the pupils liked dancing to the music and listening to Junior and Marcella describe how they play the instrument. After this, the pupils were split into two different groups and were given the opportunity to play the drums and ask questions about the instruments.
The Caribbean Day was enjoyed by all pupils and staff. We now are all looking forward to Story Telling Week which begins on Monday 8 February.
