Physical development and education are essential to improve the future health of our pupils. From the Early Years, Foundation Stage specialist sports skills are taught by a qualified coach and this continues to Year 6. Weekly sports coaching will enable our pupils to enjoy a range of sports activities and improve their fitness and well-being. Sports teams are developed from Year 2 and pupils are able to take part in local sporting activities and competitions. Extra-curricular activities are offered to promote sports skills and develop sports teams. Every pupil is expected to attend at least one extra-curricular sports activity weekly in Key Stage 2.

To promote healthy lifestyle, fitness and physical development Challenge Days in September and April enable pupils to measure personal bests during physical tasks, set themselves challenges and reflect on physical and health development.

Our School Meals Policy supports the development of health and well-being and contributes to Physical Education for our pupils. The school timetable and curriculum is organised to ensure that pupils are able to take part in physical exercise by using climbing equipment, attending Forest Schools and access to the outdoor area daily. Our school has the Learning Outside the Classroom Award which promotes physical activities and ensures that residential visits include activity providers.

We are a Rights Respecting School and our use of the Sports Premium Fund supports the following articles:

  • Article 31 (Leisure, play and culture): Children have the right to relax and play, and to join in a wide range of cultural, artistic and other recreational activities.
