Art
Our art curriculum enables children to build skills and knowledge of a range of mediums. We provide all children with the opportunity to express themselves through different art styles and forms. Following learning pathways by drawing, sculpting, painting, printing and more we layer creative experiences, providing opportunities to understand new viewpoints and ideas. Skills are revisited allowing time to practice, try new things and apply them in different ways. The pathways progress in terms of depth and challenge to build on children’s previous learning.
Children observe work from different artists, and different artistic periods. They visit exhibitions, work with local artists, take part in competitions and projects learning about how subjective art can be. Gaining an understanding of how to use and apply this knowledge on their own art work.
By exploring why art is relevant to all our lives, we aim to make certain that pupils feel entitled to develop their creativity, and understand their place in the world as creative, confident beings. We place an emphasis on encouraging exploratory journey, working towards varied an individual outcomes. By offering our pupils a broad and rich, contemporary and diverse art experience the pupil in our school prepare well for Secondary School and beyond.
We celebrate pupils achievement through displays, awarding merit certificates, the Artist of the Year award and holding a yearly art exhibition.

By the end of their time with us, we want pupils to have learned, improved and embedded a range of artistic skills. They should have an awareness of a broad range of artists and craftspeople, and be able to consider and discuss the artworks they come across. We want our pupils to be confident to explore, experiment and take risks, placing value on the process and journey that they take, not just on the finished product. Most importantly, we want children to have found and enjoyed a creative outlet – a means of self-expression and enjoyment.
